Wahoos Update and Reminders
Wahoos Families,
Hope the school year is winding down nicely for all your kids. The kids are doing great in the water! The coaches have been excited to work with the swimmers and are happy to see them making progress and getting ready for the upcoming meets.
A few reminders:
- There will not be practice Friday (May 28) or Monday (May 31). The club opens the pool early for Memorial Day weekend activities (starting 11:00 on Friday).
- Starting next week (Tuesday, June 1) the practices will move to the mornings. There are minor corrections to what I sent last week. The schedule on the Swimtopia site has been updated. Note the start time is 8:45 AM (instead of 8:30).
- 6 & Under 8:45-9:15
- Ages 7-10 8:45-9:45
- 11 & over 9:45-11:00
- Please continue signing up for practices to help the coaches plan and manage the practice structure based on swimmer headcounts. Use the Meet Entry feature under the Swimtopia Calendar.
- We will continue to have practices Monday-Friday through June 28, even on days we have meets.
- Our Time Trial is next week, Thursday, June 3. This will function like a mock swim meet. It gives everyone -- the kids, coaches, and parents -- a chance to essentially practice a swim meet. The swimmers will swim several events to get baseline times. The coaches will get to work with the swimmers in a meet format. The parents will get to fill volunteer jobs and help run the meet and of course cheer the swimmers on!
- Speaking of volunteer jobs... swim meets can't function without volunteers. We are finalizing meet format and the volunteer needs and will soon send communications about volunteering and signing up for jobs for the time trials and the meets.
- Our first meet is Monday, June 7. See details for the meets in the Swimtopia Calendar.
- There is additional information about the swim season on the Swimtopia site.
- Also, Intro to Swim Meets is a helpful resource, especially for families new to swim team or the Wahoos. There is some new information in the document specific to this Virtual Season that will be helpful to all families.
And lastly, a big thanks to the coaching staff. Head Coach Nathan McCormick and Assistant Coaches Caitlyn Cornell, Andy Dorsel, Sarah Fleury, and Skylar Guhl. These are a solid group of coaches that are working hard with our swimmers. If you haven't met them yet don't hesitate to say hello when you seen them on the pool deck.
Looking forward to time trials and the first meet.
Joe Guy
