    Monday's Meet (6/7) Update

    Wahoos families,

Our first official meet is Monday night (6/7) swimming virtually against The Reserve Riptide. Warm-ups 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm meet start. The meet is expected to conclude around 8:45 pm. As usual there’s a chance of thunderstorms. Reminder: we swim in the rain. There’s protocol we’ll follow for thunder/lightening including delays or potentially suspending the meet. Assume we’re swimming unless you receive an email prior to the meet stating otherwise.

    Virtual Meet

We are swimming meets virtually in GCSL Division 2 this season. This means we will swim independently of our opponents. Both teams will run their own meet sessions and a day or two later will merge the results from the two teams to determine the scoring for the meet. Monday will be the first night our Division 2 teams will run such a meet. Please bear with us as the teams work through exchanging and merging results. Once complete we will share and publish the meet results including final Team Scores and results by event. Something to keep in mind is if a swimmer finishes, for example, second among their fellow Wahoos in an event we will not know if they’ve actually finished second for that event until we combine scores with the other team. This is one of the reasons we made the decision to process and file ribbons to be given to the swimmers at the end of the season.

    Meet Entries

The Meet Entry report is available here. You can find it on the Team Calendar entry for the 6/7 meet. The entry report is sorted by swimmer and allows you to see all the events the swimmer is entered. Please review this report to confirm your swimmers are listed. If your swimmers are unable to attend, then make sure your swimmers are not listed. Email Coach Nathan or me ASAP there is an issue. The Meet Entry report does not show heats and lanes. The Heat Sheet will be made available around mid-day tomorrow and it will show events, heat, and lane assignments.

    Your Help

Jobs – Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help run the meet Monday night. We have 3 unfilled volunteer jobs. There are more jobs for a full meet than we had for Time Trials. As of this email we need a Head Timer (I can help anyone new to the role

Helping Clerk of Course – Clerk of Course is one of the more challenging and crucial jobs for a swim meet. The Clerk of Course and assistants organize swimmers and help marshal them to our clerk of course benches and chairs behind the starting blocks as they progress to the blocks to swim their heats. We have a lot of young swimmers, new swimmers, and new parent volunteers. This makes Clerk of Course a particular challenge with kids unfamiliar with the flow of the meet and parent volunteers that may not know many kids’ faces and names. As noted in Intro to Swim Meets, we suggest using a Sharpie to write your swimmers’ events, heats and lanes on their arms or legs so they can more easily know where to go and when to be there. Particularly for the younger kids or the kids less experienced with swim meets, we strongly suggest marking up your kids with a Sharpie marker. For kids 12 and under write their last name on their back, arm or swim cap. Write events, heats and lanes on their arms or legs. At Time Trials it was very difficult help organize the swimmers through the Clerk of Course. This led to several swimmers ending up in incorrect lanes or heats and very likely some incorrect times posted. We can help avoid this with your help. Seasoned swim parents will tell you the Sharpies are crucial for the younger kids. And the volunteers running the Clerk of Course will much more easily be able to help your swimmers get to where the need to be if their name and event info are written on them, too.

    Theme

The theme for this meet: Aloha Hawaiian Luau. Dress in fun attire (grass skirts, leis, flora skirts and shirts). Volunteers will be passing out leis to the swimmers and volunteers.

    Food & Beverages

TCBY will be onsite with frozen treats. A variety of flavors including non-dairy options and toppings (gummy bears, sour worms, M&Ms, Oreo, and sprinkles). $3 per cup and $0.50 per topping with cash, Zelle and Venmo payments accepted.

The concession stand and grill will be open. You can also bring food or have deliveries made to the pool.
