Swim Meets Mon (6/20), Tue (6/21) & Thu (6/23)
Wahoos families,
This is an EXTRA long email that contains important information about the THREE meets this week.
IMPORTANT: If you had RSVP’d to swim or volunteered for the Hembstead meet on 6/16 but are now unable to attend on the rescheduled date of 6/21 – YOU MUST GO INTO TO SWIMTOPIA AND REMOVE YOURSELF/SWIMMER FROM THE MEET. Coach Nathan is making the event assignments and we don’t want empty lanes with swimmers not in attendance.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- Thank you for keeping the club clean! PLEASE continue to use the provided trash cans to dispose of your trash properly.
- All swimmers: Write their first and last names on their back, arm, or cap.
- Swimmers should write their events/heats/lanes on their arms or legs. Coaches are receiving a lot of questions from swimmers on when they swim next. Coaches really need to focus on other responsibilities. If your swimmer has questions about what is written on them and they can’t find you, they can always ask at clerk of course. If you are not sure how to do this there are plenty of parents that will gladly help. You can also refer to several helpful documents on the Wahoos Swimtopia site.
- Wear your Wahoos cap. Swimmers are NOT permitted to wear caps from year-round or school teams at GCSL meets.
- Swimmers enter Clerk of Course area near the diving boards only.
- Swimmers should NOT be behind the blocks unless they are lined up for their event.
- We will again be using the SwimTopia app with live updates during the meet. Using the mobile app will allow you to see the events/heats your swimmers are entered in, the events/heats in progress, estimated start times for upcoming events, swimmer times as they are scored and team points tallies.
- Keep your swimmers AND OTHER CHILDREN out of the water unless they are warming up or racing. The GCSL rules state that only the swimmers who are currently racing can be in the pool during the meet. That means no dangling legs nor dips in the shallow end during the meet. The dive well, baby pool, and shallow end of the pool and playground are closed during the meet.
- Ask your swimmers not to pull on the rope marking space for the timers at the club house end of pool.
- DO NOT RUN ON DECK! Remind your swimmers that when their event is called to report to clerk of course they will have plenty of time to walk at a normal pace to that area.
- We swim in the rain. Assume we’re swimming unless you receive an email prior to the meet stating otherwise. If we get rain at a meet stick around (under shelter or in your car) until you’ve received a message stating that meet is canceled or being rescheduled.
TEAM MERCHANDISE
- See Kimberly Barker (she will have a large IKEA bag nearby)
- Pick up your pre-ordered spirit wear and/or team towels and caps for swimmers if you have not already done so.
- Available for purchase: Silicone caps - $22, Replacement latex caps - $5 (Cash, Check, Zelle - [email protected])
SPORTSMANSHIP: Is a huge part of our team. We want the Wahoos to be competitive AND celebrate everyone’s individual success, both among fellow Wahoos and competing teams. We encourage our swimmers to:
- Wish their competitors good luck
- Wait in the water until the last swimmer in the heat arrives at the wall
- Congratulate fellow competitors at the end of a race
- Mark their bodies only with writing that is swimming related and positive in nature (“Go Wahoos!” is positive whereas “Eat my bubbles!” is not)
- Be gracious hosts at home meets and well-behaved guests when away
