Schedule for Friday, June 28, 2024

Location: Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center (MCAC) 800 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd Charlotte, NC

Arrive no later than 5:10. Doors open at 4:45. Swimmers and spectators will not be allowed inside prior to this time. ** Coaches and volunteers will be allowed to enter prior to 4:45 and will receive details in a separate email.

Volunteer Jobs

All Wahoos volunteer jobs have been filled for this meet. Thank you to the parents who have graciously volunteered above and beyond the call! All-star volunteers should look for separate email with instructions on your jobs.

We have opened 2 fill-in jobs to help make sure we have coverage in the event a conflict arises for an existing volunteer. If you are not already volunteering, please consider signing up for these positions.

All-star Meet Format

• League meet where all 8 teams compete at once for points to decide All-star place finish
• Meet winner to be crowned All-star champs. Medals awarded to 1^st-3^rd event finishers and ribbons awarded to 4^th-8^th event finishers, including relays.
• Moves a little faster than regular season meets since there are only 2 heats for each individual event.
• Swimmers sit with their respective teams “on deck.” Spectators sit in the designated spectator area. Parents are not allowed on deck (marked by barricades and signage).

For the All-star Meet

Gear to Bring

• Swimmers should come dressed in their swimsuits
• Wahoos All-star Team cap (and regular season cap as backup)
• Goggles (2 pair if possible so they have a backup)
• Snacks and water/sports drinks
• Towels (at least 2)
• ** NO folding chairs ** Swimmers will sit in bleachers with our team in league designated team sections.
• Wear your Wahoos team t-shirt. *** no suits, caps nor other clothing representing a school or year-round swim team *** violations will result in DQ.
• Younger swimmers – consider bringing book, card game, or other simple item to help occupy time between events.

At the venue

• Swimmers must check-in with door monitor to enter pool deck. Then report to Wahoos seating area.
• *** Pool deck will be closed to parents/spectators. Only swimmers, coaches, meet officials and authorized volunteers will be allowed on deck area past barriers.
• *** Swimmers must let one of the 3 Parent Monitors know if they need to leave the pool deck (Mrs. Zarambo, Mrs. Fraser and Mrs. Madonna will be on deck). Parents should know their swimmer’s events and follow the meet progress and ensure their swimmers return to the pool deck at least 4 events prior to their next race.
  • No wet swimmers will be allowed into the lobby. Swimmers must be dry and SHOES ARE REQUIRED to enter the lobby area.
• If you need to message or otherwise communicate with your swimmer you should text or call one of the Parent Monitors (Jamie Zarambo 484-343-6125, Deborah Fraser 702-575-4352, Laurie Madonna 203-213-7203).
• Parents may sit in the bleachers above the entry area of the competition pool. NO chairs are allowed inside the pool area. Parents may bring folding chairs only for sitting in the lobby, or outside the facility.
• Swimmer safety
  • The NCS Safety Program is in effect for this meet
  • All adults, including parents are prohibited to enter any restroom/locker room designated for swimmers only. Adult restrooms are in the main lobby of the MCAC facility.
• Swimmers should plan to stay for the entire meet. Even after they have swum their last event they are expected to be available for any alternate entries and to cheer on their team.

Parking

Admittedly parking is a challenge on a Friday afternoon at the MCAC. It’s a bit of a contradiction for the league to say doors open at 4:45 and the primary parking option will not be available until 5:00 and warm-ups start at 5:15. The MCAC parking lot is closed and only available for GCSL assigned spaces with valid permit and along with a limited number of handicapped spaces. The parking lot across the street at the Mecklenburg Education Center is available but does not open until 5:00. Paid parking is available at the Sheraton Hotel. Street parking and other parking may be found along and around MLK Jr Blvd. Swimmers can be dropped off at the main entrance to the MCAC.

Heat Sheets

• Heat sheets will be emailed and posted on the Wahoos website as soon as they are made available (likely Thursday evening).
• Please review heat sheet and follow the usual protocol.
• Mark your 10 and under swimmers with Event/Heat/Lane from the heat sheets.
• Write your 10 and under swimmer’s name on their back or arm (this helps clerk of course and is also a queue to timers that the swimmer is in the correct spot when they arrive at the blocks).
• If your swimmer is an alternate in any event and elevated to swim an event then a coach will let them know and help then get to the CoC and blocks for their event.
• Scores will be available on the Hy-Tek Meet Mobile app (though we are not sure how often scoring will be refreshed). Swimtopia is not used for the all-star meet.

Food & Apparel

Food trucks will be available outside of the facility during all sessions. There will be no concession sold by GCSL. Absolutely no glass containers of any kind are allowed in the facility. 2024 GCSL All-Star apparel will be available for purchase by Fine Designs.
